Senior residents of East Brunswick enjoy the excellent senior services. Two subsidized senior living developments, offering 232 apartments, are currently available and an extra three buildings of the same size are proposed. The township also has two operating assisted living facilities. Meals on Wheels is a service available to the homebound. The barrier-free Senior Center provides a wide range of services and programs. Senior transportation is available to the center as well as to supermarkets and malls.
The East Brunswick Public Library has been voted the “Best Public Library in Central New Jersey” for several years in a row by readers of the Home News Tribune. Its excellent quality of collections, programs, and services to all segments of the community have helped it achieve national recognition. It is the busiest single municipal library building in the state of New Jersey, and is open more often than any other library in the state. EBTV, the library’s own municipal cable television station, produces 200 original programs each year as well. It also offers a Community Bulletin Board that updates residents on Township news and updates. This station is watched by more than 75 percent of residents’ homes. It is the only government-run station to come out with a weekly video news magazine.
East Brunswick has a remarkable medical community. Development in the center of the township, away from the heavily traveled and developed commercial area on Route 18, has created an influx of doctors, dentists, and other ancillary medical providers in the Cranbury Road section. 228 doctors, representing every specialty, with office space in the Township are currently available to keep up with residents’ health needs. Central Jersey’s largest radiology group, The University Radiology Group, P.C., is headquartered in East Brunswick and has recently expanded its facility to house a second MRI diagnostic machine. There are 101 dentists with offices in East Brunswick. Physical therapists, ambulance service companies and other medical service providers including four medical labs operate offices in the Township as well.
The top-notch East Brunswick Public School System consists of eight elementary schools: Bowne-Munro, Central, Chittick, Frost, Irwin, Lawrence Brook, Memorial and Warnsdorfer. All students in grades K-5 attend the elementary school closest to them. There are two middle-level schools, Hammarskjold Middle School (HMS) for sixth and seventh graders, and Churchill Junior High School (CJHS) for grades eight and nine. The secondary school of the district is the award-winning East Brunswick High School (EBHS).
There is no end of fun to be had in East Brunswick. The Crystal Springs Aquatic Facility offers a blue water swimming area with a lazy river, Olympic size lap pool, several wading pools, and a water slide. Tamarack Golf Club, which includes two 18-hole courses and is owned by Middlesex County, is also located in the Township. A community theater group, Playhouse 22, performs major Broadway shows and children's shows.
